The 20th Parliament has voted to extend the current term until 26 August.

The extension was proposed by Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla during Tuesday's session.

Speaker Abdul Raheem said the extension was proposed to ensure the Parliament concludes the bills currently tabled.

The proposed extension was voted on this afternoon, with 80 out of 82 members voting for the extension.

Ongoing bills in the Parliament include the amendment to Employment Act to remove the number of migrant workers that can be brought in from any one country.

The Parliament's Committee on Security Services has set a deadline to complete the work by today. As such, the bill will be passed by 26th August.
