Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has said he will ask for a vote to extend the current Parliament term, which is due to end on 15 August, until 26 August.

Starting today's session, Speaker Abdul Raheem said that as per the Parliament regulations, the last day for the current term would be 15 August.

However, since there are multiple bills that need to be completed, the Speaker suggested extending current term until 26 August.

Ongoing bills in the Parliament include the amendment to Employment Act to remove the number of migrant workers that can be brought in from any one country.

The Parliament's Committee on Security Services has set a deadline to complete the work by today. As such, the bill will be passed by 26th August.
