Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has started removing chairs and tables placed on sidewalks in various areas of Hulhumalé.

The corporation said in a post on X yesterday that it has started removing the chairs and tables placed on the sidewalks with the assistance of relevant authorities.

HDC noted that the chairs and tables are being removed from the sidewalks to make Hulhumalé a comfortable place for everyone, including pedestrians.

The HDC announced on August 1 that it is prohibited to place chairs and tables on the sidewalks of Hulhumalé. They also highlighted that the removal of the items was ordered by November 15 last year and July 24 this year. However, many people have not responded to the request.

Therefore, the HDC had allowed removing the chairs and tables by the 10th of August, failure to comply after which would result in the HDC removing and cleaning up the areas.

The corporation added that they will not be responsible for any damage caused to the property.
