President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government has not influenced the trial of former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
During a rally of People’s National Front (PNF) on Thursday, President Yameen said the government tried to influence his trial in efforts to delay it further, adding that he knows who tried to influence the trial. He said he knew those who influenced the case, those who delayed the case in the High Court and those who caused transportation issues for a High Court judge.
After meeting with the Malé City Council, President Muizzu told the media that he would not tolerate any influence in the judiciary by anyone in the President's Office or in a government position.
"I said then that from the moment my government is formed, neither the President's Office nor any level of government official will exert any influence on the judiciary. If I see anyone doing such a thing right now, I will immediately remove them," he said.
The President said he would not deviate from what he said.
