MDP has called for an end to state-owned company employee lay-offs.
In a press release issued yesterday, MDP said that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had repeatedly promised employees would not be laid off, during his election campaign.
"It is unacceptable that employees of state-run companies are laid off during this economic crisis and their family income has been stopped and put in distress," the party said in a statement.
MDP condemned the employee lay-offs by the State and urged for an immediate stop to the lay-offs. The party further said that it was ready to assist those dismissed from jobs to approach the employment tribunal.
MDP said that though the political appointee details have been kept under the wraps, the figure is close to 2,000.
MDP also said that it is now being proven that the promises made by President Muizzu to the people during the presidential campaign were fabricated to garner the votes of the people. This includes keeping the price of fish at MVR 20, reclaiming Fushidhiggaru Falhu in eight months, increasing the allowance for single mothers to MVR 12,000 and the promise not to increase the number of political posts to more than 700.
