Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has revealed that a master plan has been prepared for each Atoll of the country and loans will be issued to build guesthouses in the islands.
Speaking at a press conference at the MMPRC today, Minister Faisal said more efforts have been launched to give opportunities to youths to build guesthouses.
"I want to tell all the youth that this is the time for youth to invest in tourism. We are in discussions with BML and MIB to introduce tourism products and provide loans to build guesthouses/hotels at good interest rates," he said.
The minister said he hoped the loans would be opened for applications this year. Faisal said the number of guesthouse beds needed in each Atoll will be known when the master plan is completed.
"With the promotion of guesthouses in each Atoll, the promotion of the Atoll will then start from the MMPRC budget. Then the unique selling points in the island will be identified and promoted by the MMPRC," he said.
The MMPRC has decided to allocate part of two taxes for tourism marketing from next year.
