Japan's Namika Yamashita has won the women's title at the Visit Maldives Pro 2024, which is part of the Bodyboarding IBC World Tour, one of the biggest international sporting events held in the Maldives.
The final events of the Visit Maldives Pro, which began on Saturday, were held today, with Yamashita clinching the women's event by defeating the country's legendary bodyboarder, last year's women's world champion Sari Ohara, in the final.
Sari took lead in the final heat with a wave that scored her 7.0 against Yamashita's 6.5. However, Yamashita won the heat with the next wave, securing a score of 6.5 against Sari's 5.0.
This was the first time in her career that she won the title of an IBC World Tour event. Yamashita said winning the title was a huge honour.
A total of 86 athletes from 14 countries competed in this year's event, with One Sports being the online media partner of the event.
