Visit Maldives Pro 2024, which is part of the Bodyboarding IBC World Tour, is gearing up for the semi-final heats of the junior category of the 2024 edition.
Tuesday's wave proved a little challenging for all the athletes during the four heats in the fifth round of the junior category. Two athletes from each heat secured quarter finals.
Brazil's Guilherme Montenegro topped the first heat with a score of 13.25. Jai Taylor finished second in the heats. Morocco's Abdi Mohammed finished third. In the second heat, Ethan Perez and Hugo Nude confirmed quarter finals.
In the third heat, last year's Visit Maldives Pro junior champion Hohe Hernandez was knocked with a score of 11.65, while Chile's Mikelle Arraigada, who finished first, scored 13.5. Arraigada is currently second in the world junior rankings.
After an intense fourth heat, Micheel Yancce was knocked out with a score of 10.95 while Hugo Medina and Vincente Combos secured quarter finals.
The first round of quarter finals saw Guilherme compete against Ethan in the first heat; with the latter winning with a score of 9.6. The second heat was secured by Taylor who went up against Naude.
Compos was knocked out in the following heat while Arraigada secured the win having secured the highest score in a single wave.
In the last heat of the quarter-final, France's Milo scored 12.25, while his opponent, Medina, scored 10.25.
The Junior semi-finals will see Ethan face-off against Taylor and Arraigada against Milo.
The Visit Maldives 2024 will continue till May 9, with a total of 86 athletes from 14 countries competing in this year's event.
