Brazil's Maira Vianna, has lost the chance to win in the Maldives after getting knocked out during the fifth round.
The heats of the Visit Maldives Pro have been going on in waves since Saturday. Today's heat was a challenging day for the athletes and the fifth round of the Women's Open division has seen surprising results.
In the women's fifth round, four heats were conducted and three athletes competed in each heat, so the judges gave 30 minutes to a heat, out of which only the top two athletes could make it to the quarter-finals.
In the first heat, Brazilian Neymara Carvalho was joined by Japan's Sara Abiko and Namika Yamashita, who won the heat with a score of 12.5, followed by Neymara with a score of 11.2.
In the next heat, world women's rankings Maira Vianna, Alexandra Rinder and South Africa's Pamela Bowren competed, with Pamela winning the heat with a score of 13 against's Rinder's 11.5. Vianna got eliminated with score of 11.
The third heat in the fifth round saw the champions. Along with the last visit Maldives champion Teresa Miranda, the other contestants in the heats were last year's IBC World Tour women's champion, Japan's Sari Ohara and this year's women's junior champion and senior-ranked Brazilian Luna Hardman.
The heat was taken by Ohara with a score of 13.6. Teresa finished second with a score of 12.25, while Luna scored 11.
In the final heat of the women's fifth round, young star Luana Dourado won the heat with a score of 11.15, Teresa Padrela finished second with a score of 10.25 while Joanna Schenker got eliminated.
The Visit Maldives 2024 will continue till May 9, with a total of 86 athletes, 14 countries competing in this year's competition. The women's quarter-finals, semi-finals and final heats are also scheduled for tomorrow.
