A young man has been injured in an accident in Hithadhoo, Addu City.

Police said the accident occurred at 11:49pm when a motorcycle driving at high speed went out of control and crashed into a sand pile at the construction site of a drainage system.

The 23-year-old driver of the bicycle was admitted to the Equatorial Hospital in Addu City and will be sent to Malé for further treatment, police said.

Equatorial Hospital could not be reached for further information on the injuries sustained.

Police are investigating the incident.
