The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has opened the opportunity for those interested in running food trucks in Hulhumalé City.
The food trucks will operate on a fixed fee model, but expressions of interest (EOI) can be submitted for other models, the corporation said in an announcement. The EOI should also clearly state the benefits to both parties.
The announcement said that if more than one party submits an EOI, the contractor will be selected to provide the service in accordance with the HDC master plan. Accordingly, priority will be given to the proposed model, experience, financial ability, food truck design concept, and CSR.
Food trucks will be allowed to operate in:
- Ferry Terminal Area
- STO Hotel Area
- Central Park
- Fehires Park
- Water theme park
- Football stadium area
- Fahiveni Community Centre
- HDC Head Office
- Rehendhi School
- Red Bull Park
- Ruhgandu 1

HDC said the food trucks must be prepared in accordance with the guidelines set by the Health Protection Agency (HPA). Trucks can be fined between MVR 5,000-50,000 if they violate the guidelines issued by the HDC.
They further revealed a MVR 500,000 acquisition fee for the parking space and MVR 20,000 as monthly rent would be payable to HDC by all vendors in addition to a three month's advance.
