The National Centre for the Holy Quran has officially opened a new branch in L. Maavah.
This branch was opened under a special government project to establish Quran teaching centers in inhabited islands across the Maldives.
At a special ceremony held on the island, the L. Maavah branch of the National Centre for the Holy Quran was inaugurated by Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Abdul Ghafoor Ahmed. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the National Centre for the Holy Quran and key representatives from the Maavah Council Secretariat.
According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Quran classes at the branch were officially launched during this visit, and members of the center's delegation met with enrolled students and their parents. In addition, discussions were held with representatives from the Maavah Council Secretariat and the Women's Development Committee (WDC) on strengthening Quranic education programs at the branch, administrative management, and ensuring sustainable operations.
The ministry noted that the opening of this branch marks another milestone in the government's ongoing efforts to decentralize Quranic education and expand opportunities for students across the Maldives to learn, recite, and memorize the Holy Quran. The ministry also stated that under the leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, special emphasis is being placed on Quranic education as part of broader initiatives to strengthen Islamic knowledge, encourage the memorization of the Holy Quran, and broaden educational opportunities for future generations.
