The Parliament has referred the name of Ahmed Munawwar to the Finance Committee for consideration as the Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

The Speaker of Parliament referred the matter to the Finance Committee for consideration on Tuesday, following a recommendation by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Ali Hashim, who has been the Governor since the MDP government, was sacked yesterday. President Muizzu removed him from office after the Parliament consulted him to do so.

Munawwar, who was nominated to be appointed as the new Governor of the MMA, is currently an Advisor to the Finance Minister. In addition, Munawwar was the Finance Minister in the government of former President Abdullah Yameen.
