The ruling PNC candidates won three seats in the Malé City Council and one seat in Kulhudhuffushi City Council by-elections held today to elect members for the vacant seats.

The election, which took place from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, saw the election of a member for West Henveiru, Central Machangoalhi, Hulhumalé, North Kulhudhuffushi City, Rasmadhoo WDC and Bileiydhoo Council President.

MDP and PNC candidates contested the vacant seats in the Malé City Council and the Kulhudhuffushi City Council.

Candidates who won the by-election of the Malé City Council and the by-election of the Kulhudhuffushi City Council:

Fathimath Shaufa Saleem - West Henveiru

Fathimath Ishan Ali - Central Machangoalhi

Ali Aiman - Hulhumalé

Ibrahim Ahmed - KNorth Kulhudhuffushi City

Three seats in the Malé City Council became vacant after the members representing them became members of parliament. Ahmed Aifaan, who was a councilor for West Henveiru, is now the MP of the constituency. Ahmed Zameer, who was the councilor of Central Machangoalhi Constituency, is now the MP that constituency. Ibrahim Shujau who was the councilor for Hulhumalé was elected MP for Baarah.
