Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Maldivians traveling to and residing in Bangladesh to remain vigilant and safe in the wake of student protests and violence in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh's students' protest against civil service recruitment policies intensified on Monday, with confrontations between protesters and authorities, and building being set on fire. The Bangladeshi government has started using force to quell the protests and internet and mobile phone services have been disconnected.

In a statement, Foreign Ministry advised Maldivians not to venture out on streets as directed by Bangladesh authorities and to follow the Maldivian High Commission's instructions.

"The government is working to ensure the safety and security of Maldivian students and Maldivians living in the country and if any assistance is required, please contact the Maldives High Commission in Bangladesh," the Ministry said.
