Police have said that the man who got injured during arrest sustained injuries after falling while trying to jump out of a window.
The police were trying to arrest the 38-year-old man, identified as Mohammad Azmil Jaleel, on Monday following a court's order directing him to appear before a Drug Court yesterday.
He fractured his head and sustained further injuries and is currently on ventilator support in the ICU of IGMH.
According to a press release issued by the police, Azmil was injured around 1415hrs on Monday after he jumped out of a window and fell to the road trying to escape from police. The authority said that he had asked the officers to give him some time to get ready and made a run for it.
He was transferred to IGMH after being checked out by the medical officer at Male' Custodial around 1505hrs.
The police said they have asked the Professional Standards Command, National Integrity Commission and The Human Rights Commission to look into the manner in which the institution had acted during the arrest, as the family had concerns.
