The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said it has directed various state agencies since 2009 to recover MVR 1.5 billion lost to the state through corruption and other means.

Speaking to the Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions, ACC's Vice President Abdul Salam said that the state cannot recover the funds lost unless the relevant authorities take necessary steps.

He added that out of the MVR 1.5 billion lost to the state, only MVR 100 million has been recovered so far.

Abdul Salam further added that ACC is gearing up to monitor the efforts made by the authorities to recover lost funds and that details of the efforts will be publicised.
