Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced a man to nine months and 18 days in prison for stealing the motorcycle of UK's Honorary Consul to the Maldives, Dr. Paul Arthur Van Driessche.

Ahmed Irshan, R. Kandholhudhoo, was found guilty of vehicle theft and sentenced to prison.

The State brought two charges against Ahmed Irshan in connection with Dr. Paul Arthur Van Driessche's bike theft case. One of the charges was related to theft of a motorcycle. The other charge sheet was filed in connection with the theft of sunglasses under the motorcycle's seat.

Ahmed Irshan pleaded guilty to both the charges and entered into a plea bargain with the state.

According to the confession agreement, Ahmed Irshan will be sentenced to nine months and 18 days in prison.

The Criminal Court found the plea bargain valid and sentenced Ahmed Irshan to jail for the period specified in the plea bargain.

However, since Ahmed Irshan was in custody for 15 days and 19 hours during the investigation process, the court ruled that he would have to serve a nine-month and two-day sentence in the bike theft case.
