The national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), rose in the first half of the current fiscal, statistics show.

According to the quarterly GDP report released by the Maldives Bureau of Statistics, the GDP for the first quarter of the current fiscal year was MVR 27,363 million.

This is an increase of MVR 2,444 crore over GDP in the first quarter of the previous fiscal as against MVR 2,208 crore in the year-ago period.

According to the report, the economy grew by 8.8 percent in the first quarter of the current financial year as compared to the same period last year.

According to the report, the tourism sector contributed the most to GDP growth, accounting for 2.3 percent of GDP.
