The Parliament's Public Accounts Committee has decided to check if Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Ali Hashim cooperated with Finance Ministry before moving forward with his dismissal.

The Committee passed the decision at a meeting held today after Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla sent the proposal back to the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament for review.

Deputy Speaker of the House Ahmed Nazim, who proposed the removal of the Governor, said that the Governor should have actively asked how much support the Government needed. He proposed the information be shared with the parliament through a letter.

Nazim's proposal was seconded by opposition MP Dr Ahmed Shamheed.

He said the Committee should inquire whether the Governor had not cooperated on the request of the state before moving ahead with a dismissal.
