Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim has alleged that Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Governor Ali Hashim is not fulfilling the responsibility entrusted to him.

Speaking in the debate on the State Fiscal Responsibility Bill moved by Thulusdhoo MP Ibrahim Naseem in the Parliament today, Nazim said the government could work to stabilize the country's economy under the relevant policy.

However, there is another situation where the state and the economy cannot be controlled, he said.

It is the control of monetary policy, he said, adding that monetary policy is a responsibility entrusted to the Governor of the Central Bank of the Maldives.

“We don’t see the governor fulfilling that responsibility because this government has not received any advice from the governor to the government or the parliament during the last seven months of taking office,” he said.
