Maldives Police Service has re-established their Traffic Police Department,

The Traffic Police Department was abolished with changes in the administrative structure of the police during the last MDP government.

After the abolition of the Traffic Police Department, their work was handled by the operational shifts of the police stations. The police stations in different wards have looked into traffic and ward issues separately. They are Henveiru, Machhangolhi, Maafannu, and Galolhu as well as Hulhumalé and Villimalé separately.

However, under the government's strategic plan for the next five years, two separate departments have been created for the traffic police effective today. They are a separate department for the traffic police in the Hulhumalé area and a separate department for the traffic police in the city.

In addition, the entire police structure has been shaped into 17 divisions at the command/directory level including local policing regions.

These include the establishment of a Gang Crime Enforcement, Digital Data and Technology department at the command level and a new digital command to build a data-driven and modern institution.

A separate policing command has been established in the name of Hulhumalé Police to further strengthen the policing in Hulhumalé and provide appropriate policing services. An anti-scam center has also been set up to focus on scam cases.
