Home Minister Ali Ihsan has said that the bodies of those who pass away in judicial custody will be handed over to their families after conducting a full postmortem.

Speaking at a press conference held at Iskandar Koshi today to inform about the investigation conducted to investigate the allegations of torture on the body of 45-year-old Mohamed Jameel, a resident of Funadhoo, who died in Maafushi Prison yesterday, Minister Ihsan said that if a person dies in police custody, the body will be released to the families after a thorough postmortem is conducted.

Pointing out that Jameel's death came to light four hours after he passed, the Minister said that this is unacceptable.

"I believe that's something we need to rectify. So starting today, we will check on all inmates hourly to make sure they are okay," Minister Ihsan said.
