Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) president and former foreign minister Abdulla Shahid has called on Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Shahid met Xi Jinping on the sidelines of a conference in Beijing to mark the 70th anniversary of the 'Five Principles of Peaceful Co-Existence'.

Shahid posted on X that he met Chinese President Xi before Xi's speech at the conference.

Shahid said Xi's efforts to bring peace and stability in the world by respecting each other are inspiring.

"Humanity has a simple choice; peaceful friendship," Shahid said.

He added that through collective efforts, common challenges can be addressed to pave way for a sustainable, peaceful, stable, and prosperous future.
