MIFCO on Thursday revealed that the government is working to release MVR 52 million, which the company owes to fishermen.
MIFCO media officer Ibrahim Saeed said there are talks that the government is working to pay the outstanding MVR 52 million to the fishermen today. However, no official response or confirmation has been received yet.
"It is believed that the government will announce it," Ibrahim said.
Fishermen have been protesting at the Addu Fisheries Complex in Addu City since last Saturday.
The fishermen also brought the operation of the complex to a complete halt, cut off the electricity from the site and broke into the canteen.
However, with the help of the police, electricity was restored. However, the operation of the site has not yet started.
