President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to submit a proposal seeking parliament's approval for the Cabinet's recommendation to the Maldives to participate in the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States(OACPS) Samoa Agreement.

According to the President's Office, President Muizzu took the decision at a cabinet meeting held yesterday after discussing the information contained in the paper submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard.

The Samoa Agreement reveals the legal framework that is based on six key areas of EU – OCAPS relations for the next twenty years - human rights and democracy, peace and security, development, economic growth, climate change, and migration and mobility.

According to the President's Office, participating in the agreement and becoming a full member of the OACPS will make it easier for the Maldives to access opportunities in various eu sectors, including opening more doors to obtain better prices for various marine fish exported out of the Maldives.
