Ali Sifam, Beach Villa, L. Mundoo has filed an appeal with the High Court over the Criminal Court's verdict finding him as an accomplice of the murder of Ali Ziyadham, and sentencing him to life in prison.

Ali Ziyadham, Noovilu, L. Mundoo, was fatally stabbed on a street in Mundoo at around 10:30 pm on March 20, 2015.

Mohamed Shanoon, Heena Villa, L. Mundoo was found guilty of the murder, and was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court.

The High Court today heard the appeal filed by Sifam.

Appealing the case, the defense counsel for Sifam said the Criminal Court had acted wrongly in convicting Sifam. Therefore, his lawyer asked the High Court to quash the Criminal Court's judgment.

Responding to the appeal points filed by Sifam, the prosecution said the lower court had ruled under the Prohibition of Intimidation and Possession of Sharp Objects Act. It also said that section 30 of the Criminal Procedure Act, as a means of interpretation, was not defined in detail as to what constitutes participation in the law prohibiting intimidation and possession of sharp objects.

In this case, the prosecution sought a determination that the appellant had not shown any reason to change the sentence imposed on Sifam.

Concluding today's hearing, the bench said that if there is nothing further to be done during the hearing, the court will decide the case.
