Operations at Addu Fisheries Complex have been temporarily suspended due to the ongoing protests by the fishermen.

Fishermen have been protesting the non-payment of dues from MIFCO.

A MIFCO official said that the company is finding it difficult to carry out operations onsite due to the ongoing protests. As such, operations have been temporarily suspended.

MIFCO said that police have been deployed near the site as the fishermen are protesting, but that the company has not decided to impose any restrictions on the protest.

According to MIFCO, the protesting fishermen had cut off power to the accommodation block on Saturday night, leading to the employees sleeping outside. Additionally, the staff canteen was also vandalised by the protestors, MIFCO said.
