Mohamed Aan Hussain and Aishath Ulya Shaig have been named as the swimmers from the Maldives for this year’s Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The two opportunities for swimming in the Olympic Games for the Maldives are from University places. The two Maldivian swimmers were selected for the Olympic Games after receiving the highest World Aquatics Swimming Points.

This year’s Olympic contingent is the largest ever. Maldives will compete in four sports this year, of which table tennis was secured in a qualifier. 16-year-old Fathimath Dheema Ali became the first Maldivian athlete to qualify for the Olympics.

Fathimath Nabaha is competing in badminton at the Olympics. Nabaha is the first Maldivian athlete to compete in two consecutive Olympics. In athletics, Ibadullah Adam, who is training in Jamaica, will compete in the Olympics. The next sport to go to the Olympics is swimming. The athletes who will go in swimming are Mohamed Aan and Aishath Ulya.

Table Tennis Association of Maldives (TTAM) President and Olympic Committee Executive Committee Member Ali Rasheed (Ayya) has been appointed as Maldives' Chief De Missionary at the Olympic Games.
