Two metal detectors have been installed at Maafushi Prison to prevent mobile phones from being smuggled in.
In an interview with PSM, Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan said two metal detectors had been installed at Maafushi prison last week and a body scan machine will be installed soon.
The Minister said that most of the scam calls are made from Maafushi prison, adding that drugs are also being smuggled into the prison.
"The sad truth is that on average, we find mobile phones and drugs in every cell. We are taking necessary measures to address this in the prison," he said.
The Minister said efforts were being made with the bank and the police to stop the scam calls.
"Once that is resolved, we have to address the scam callers within society. In this regard, police has entered into a very good agreement with the bank and we are trying our best," Minister Ihsan said.
