A migrant worker died on Monday, following a collapse while at work on the Sinamalé Bridge.
The migrant worker was taken to Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumalé early last night and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
While China's CCCC is carrying out the maintenance work of the Sinamalé Bridge, the migrant worker did not belong to the workforce of the company.
The government handed over the work to the CCCC at a special ceremony held at the Voice of Maldives' Senaco Hall on May 20, The Chinese company started maintenance work on March 31.
Under the agreement, CCCC will carry out the maintenance work of the Sinamalé Bridge for the next three years. In addition, the work includes the recruitment and training of Maldivians required for the work, conducting assessments to study the initial repair work and maintenance of the bridge and establishing a record keeping system.
NOTE: Maldives Police Service on 19th June (Wednesday) stated that the incident had occurred on the Thilamalé Bridge and not on the Sinamalé Bridge as previously reported.
