Maldives Police Service has rescued a foreigner who was kidnapped by seven locals.

The crime was reported around 2:36 a.m. and the kidnappers called to a friend of the foreigner and demanded MVR 40,000 in ransom to be brought near Kangaroo Kids. And when the money was brought there, a 42-year-old Bangladeshi national who came to accept ransom was arrested.

Police said that when the arrested foreigner revealed that their hostage is at an ally on Nikagas Magu and the police went to the area and found him.

Further investigation has revealed that about seven locals were involved in the kidnapping and they escaped when the police went to make the rescue. Police said that the kidnap victim was a 29-year-old Bangladeshi national and he was beaten by the kidnappers and stole two phones and a necklace from him.

The case is being investigated by the Serious and Organized Crime Department of the Maldives Police Service.
