The Maldives Police Service has warned that enforcement action will be taken against motorists who park on pavements in Hulhumalé, obstructing pedestrians and public movement.
In a social media post, police said they had observed an increase in vehicles parked on pavements designated for pedestrians and in areas where parking disrupts traffic flow.
Police urged motorists to avoid obstructive parking to prevent accidents and ensure public safety, warning that action would be taken against vehicles found parked in such areas.
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed has instructed officers to take the strongest measures against repeated traffic violations as part of efforts to improve road safety.
In a separate message, the Commissioner said special measures had been planned in coordination with relevant institutions to prevent accidents caused by the careless actions of a small number of road users. He instructed police departments to implement these measures at the highest level in Malé and across the Maldives.
