The final sitting of the 18th session of parliament has been delayed after being unable to meet a quorum required for the sitting. The sitting began at 10 a.m. with a quorum on 22 MPs.

With many disagreements among the MPs, a decision is on the agenda for today on the new benefits for the Attorney General whose term ended with the new Constitution; Sheikh Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim.

Opposing the amendment, the MPs of MDP has said that the amendment would be nullified in the next session of parliament which has a MDP majority.

A debate on MPs keeping benefits after end of term in office, proposed by MP for Dhihdhoo constituency, Abdul Latheef Mohamed, is also on the agenda for today. The proposed amendment says that every person who has been an MP and their spouse along with any children under age of 18 should receive health insurance under the MP Scheme and a former MPs should receive a diplomatic passport.

MP for Thimarafushi constituency, Mohamed Musthafa proposed and amended to the same law so that former MPs would receive VIP service at airports.

And the MP for Velidhoo constituency, Abdulla Yameen Rasheed proposed an amendment to the same law for former MPs to continue receiving parliament benefits even if they return to government jobs along with the financial benefits. The current law states that a former MP who has served a year in office would receive 30 percent of the salary of an MP.

However, today's sitting of the parliament began with debate to the amendment to the Human Rights Commission law proposed by the MP for Mid-Henveiru constituencey, Ali Azim. However, the sitting went to recess at 10:30 a.m.
