State has agreed that the verdicts of High Court and Criminal Court regarding the terrorism charges pressed against former Vice President, Ahmed Adeeb were wrong.
Adeeb’s lawyer Ismail Mohamed confirmed to One Online that during the appeal hearing of the case held at Supreme Court on Sunday, that the state admitted that previous verdicts in the case were wrong.
Terrorism charges were pressed against Adeeb after he was allegedly found in possession of a pistol and bullets.
His lawyer noted that the Criminal Court based the charges and their verdict on the witness testimonies of three individuals. Criminal Court’s verdict was later upheld by the High Court.
The three witnesses had stated that they saw Adeeb with something that was familiar to a pistol. However, during the case no forensic investigations were presented – which is crucial for a case like this.
Criminal Court had sentenced Adeeb for 10 years for the possession of a pistol and bullets. While the High Court had upheld this verdict, first appeal hearing of the case was held at Supreme Court today.
