Former CEO of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) Adam Azim has been sworn in as the Mayor of Male' City.

Justice Mahaz Ali Zahir administered the oath of office to Azim at a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge on Monday night.

Former Mayor of Male' City, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar and cabinet ministers were present at the swearing-in ceremony.

The newly elected members of male' city council and the current members of the council also attended the ceremony.

The by-election to the Male' City Council was held on May 13.

The Election Commission (EC) released the official results of the election on January 15. According to the official results, Azim, who contested for the mayor's post, received 7,621 votes, which was 44.81 percent of the election. Azima Shakoor, who contested on behalf of PNC, received 5,031 votes, which was 29.58 percent of the votes polled by The Democrats. 13.78 per cent of the total elections.

Hussain Wahid, who contested as an independent candidate, got 1,888 votes, which was 11.10 per cent of the votes polled, while Shuaib Ali got 125 votes, which was 0.73 per cent of the election.

The by-election to the Male' City Council was held after Muizzu was elected mayor and three members of the council were appointed to various positions in President Dr. Muizzu's government.
