Maldives Police Service has said that at the end of March 2019, the highest number of muggings took place in Henveiru district in Male’ City.

Speaking at a Police press conference today, it was announced that 22 cases of muggings were reported from Henviru while 18 cases were reported from Maafannu and 14 cases from the Galolhu district.

Police also noted that based on the reports, the crimes were identified to be opportunistic crimes committed without much planning. According the police, the criminals have snatched handbags and using a rouse to borrow phones to make an apparent phone call. Police said that the victims of these crimes are mostly children under the age of 18.
