The Acting Commissioner of Police and current Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed has been officially appointed as the Commissioner of Police.
Under Article 52 (b) of the Maldives Police Service laws, Hameed has been appointed to the position by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Hameed was promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police and appointed Acting Commissioner of Police on December 12, 2018, after the dismissal of then Commissioner, Hamdhoon Rasheed.
He was working as Head of Intelligence when he was dismissed from the Service for leaking classified information in 2012. Hameed then won a wrongful termination suit at the Civil Court, but the ruling was overturned by the High Court before winning a second appeal at the Supreme Court.
On 4 December 2018, he was reinstated to the Police Service and appointed as the Assistant Commissioner and Head of Intelligence after President Solih took office.
