Maldives Police Service has arrested 17 people in relation to illegal drugs.

Police said that the arrests were made in a joint operation with the Drug Enforcement Department of the Police after following the information received by Police Intelligence about drug use and drug trade out of a residential house in Galolhu.

The Police said that they arrested a group of men that include an 18-year-old, two a 20-year-olds, a 23-year-old, a 24-year-old, a 25-year-old, 28-year-old, two 29-year-olds, two 30-year-olds, a 32-year-old, a 35-year-old, a 37-year-old, two 38-year- and a 41-year-old.

They were arrested with a court order and the house in Galolhu searched to find a film canister containing suspected drugs along with 164 plastic packets and ten cellophane pieces all containing suspected drugs.
