Parliamentary hopeful for the Henveiru-North constituency, Alhan Fahmy has called on the government to assist construction of houses for homeowners under a long term payment plan. Alhan said that this scheme would aid those who were unable to complete construction due to financial difficulties.

While Alhan is currently conducting his campaign under the slogan “People and Country are Top Priority”, he had taken to twitter to call on the government regarding the matter.

He said that introducing a scheme to aid the construction of houses for homeowners should be included in the government policies for housing.

While Alhan has called on the government to implement this scheme, there are many citizens who are homeowners that cannot afford to build their houses due to lack of finances. The interest rates offered by banks for the construction of homes are sky high. The completion of construction is also unavailable for those that wish to build their houses to an acceptable standard but cannot offer a certain value of collateral to the bank. Various homes that are owned by many are not completed even after the younger generation at a household had matured. As such, there is a high demand for a proper housing scheme to be implemented.

Alhan Fahmy had previously filled the position of MP for Addu constituency. He had also served as Vice President of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
