A huge sum of funds have been heisted after a break in at the MTCC tower. The MTCC tower houses the MTCC office, where the funds have been stolen from.

The break in was reported to Maldives Police Service at 8:18 am this morning.

The Managing Director of MTCC Hassan Shah reported to One Online that the theft has been recorded on CCTV camera.

He said that the CCTV footage shows that the heist took place at 3:40 am last night by masked perpetrators donning gloves.

The MD of MTCC added that the perpetrators had blasted through a door on the fifth floor of the Finance Department at the tower. He said that they had gained access to the fifth floor via an adjacent building under construction.

Shah reiterated that an estimated MVR 800,000 have been stolen and said that this amount includes yesterday's Insurance funds as well as petty cash.

The MD has also said that the laptop of the Chief Financial officer was also taken.

Maldives Police Service have reported that the investigation into the heist is currently ongoing.
