The Government has awarded the contract to develop roads in 11 islands across the Maldives to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), at a total cost of MVR 912.15 million.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge, with State Minister for Infrastructure Ismail Hameed signing on behalf of the Ministry and MTCC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed representing the company.

Under the project, roads in eight islands will be asphalted, while roads in the remaining three will be developed using sand with a cement-treated base (CTB).

The islands included in the asphalt road development are Innamaadhoo, Feridhoo, Bilehdhoo, Rasgetheemu, Dharavandhoo, Magoodhoo, Feeali and Maaungoodhoo. The CTB-based road works will be carried out in Kendhoo, Mathiveri and Dhiffushi.

MTCC said the project will provide residents with improved roads, ease travel difficulties caused by flooding during rainy weather and support economic and social development in the islands.
