The Government has signed agreements with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to carry out infrastructure development projects in five islands.

State Minister for Infrastructure Ismail Hameed signed the agreements on behalf of the Government, while MTCC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed signed on behalf of the company.

The projects include land reclamation, coastal protection and harbour upgrades in Sh. Funadhoo, K. Maafushi, F. Dharanboodhoo, G.Dh. Madaveli and K. Gaafaru.

The K. Gaafaru harbour project will include dredging the harbour and channel, constructing a 420-metre breakwater and a 220-metre concrete jetty, as well as repairing the existing quay wall.

In Sh. Funadhoo, the second phase of the land reclamation and coastal protection project will reclaim 26.55 hectares of land and include 3,284 metres of geo-bag revetment and 50 metres of geo-bag groyne.

The F. Dharanboodhoo coastal protection project is scheduled for completion within 360 days and will include six rock groynes and breakwaters.

The G.Dh. Madaveli harbour upgrade will include dredging, improvements to the boat harbour area, coastal protection works, a new quay wall, a concrete jetty, a ramp, paving and lighting.

The second phase of the K. Maafushi land reclamation and coastal protection project will involve reclaiming 25 hectares of land, along with 724 metres of rock revetment, 162 metres of rock breakwater and a 356-metre rock groyne.
