Former President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, has said that MDP acquiring a majority at Parliament is extremely dangerous for this country.
President Yameen said this in a leaked phone conversation with citizens of Laamu Maavashu in an effort to garner support for former Minister of Economics and current Parliamentary hopeful of PPM for the Maavashu constituency, Mohamed Saeed. Saeedh was also said to be part of this phone conversation.
He said that MDP acquiring a majority is not only dangerous for himself, but also for the country. President Yameen said that there are difficulties posed to him even now and that many matters will see change, if MDP wins a majority at Parliament. As such, he said that this is not right.
President Yameen said that the current days of this country are absent of patriotism and added that there are many who are critical of the religion.
He said that the characteristics of Maldivians are absent from this country and said that all efforts are taken with foreign entities. President Yameen said that no step has been taken towards the progress and development of the islands in Maldives.
The former President said that he had not allowed the loss of individuality of this nation during his administration. He added that he had also not allowed interference by foreigner into religious matters or the defense of this country during that period of time.
