Maldives Police Service has begun investigations into some of the cases of corruption at The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporations (MMPRC).

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had recently revealed a report on acts of corruption at MMPRC during former President Yameen’s administration.

The Acting Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed spoke to Public Service Media (PSM) regarding the investigation. He said that there are some cases made public by the ACC regarding corruption at MMPRC that need to be investigated. As such, the commissioner has now said that the Police are conducting these investigations.

ACP Hameed reiterated that various criminal activities mentioned in the ACC report need to be investigated and researched thoroughly. He cited instances of money laundering, fraud and forgery indicated by the report. The ACP has said that the cases need to be addressed by Police by looking into the ACC report in conjunction with existing evidence as well. He noted that the investigation will be conducted on whether there is a link between the report and the current evidence held by MPS.

The report by ACC on corruption of MVR 1.4 billion at MMPRC was made public the past Thursday.

Various allegations have been made in the report against major companies and members of Parliament in the ACC report.
