President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated the campaign for anti-corruption titled, “Zero Tolerance to Corruption” today.
The inauguration took place in a special ceremony held at the President’s Office today.
President Solih had also inaugurated the launch of an online portal where submissions can be made on revealing corruption.
The President’s Office has announced that any who wish to remain anonymous can now report acts of corruption via the online portal to the Office.
The submission of reports on corruption can be accompanied with evidence as well. The person who made the submission can also follow the proceedings of the submission via the portal.
While anonymity is an option among submissions within the portal, information on proceedings of these submissions can also only be viewed by the person who submitted the issue.
The submissions within portal are to be reviewed by a special committee at the President’s Office. Cases that require the President’s attention will be forwarded to President Solih. Arrangements have also reportedly been made to take further action such as submitting the case to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) or the Prosecutor General's Office under advisement of President Solih.
The Secretary of Policy at the President’s Office Aminath Shauna has revealed that the policy on zero tolerance for corruption will be implemented in an effort to better proceedings of investigations and measures taken against the corrupt. She added that this policy will serve to close the doors on the abuse of State resources. The Secretary of Policy further added that this policy would re-establish the people’s confidence in government and independent institutions as well as government companies.
Shunana noted that the portal that has been launched today is the first initiative of this kind that has been taken by the government of Maldives. She said that the portal has been designed with international standards and measures in mind.
