Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to develop an airport at Raa Atoll Alifushi.
At a special ceremony held at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure today, the agreement for the Alifushi Airport Development Project was signed by the CO of MTCC, Adam Azim and the Director General of the Planning Ministry, Fathimath Shaana.
The project is contracted to MTCC for MVR 451 million to be completed with 750 days.
The project entails the development of a 1,200 meter-long runway, reclaim 50.5 hectares of land by dredging and rainbowing. Ten hectares of the reclaimed land will be given to housing and development of Alifushi and 40.5 hectares will be used for airport development.
The reclaimed area would also be developed further with 2,871 meters of revetment.
Aside from Alifushi, the current administration has plans to develop airports at Meemu Atoll Muli, Baa Atoll Thulhaadhoo and Faafu Atoll Bilehfahi in the coming year.
