While the previous government of President Abdulla Yameen had opened up the sale of houses in Hulhumale’ Phase II during October last year, several forms had been released to the Ministry of Housing.
Deputy Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ali Shamin said in response to a question posed by One Online that the Ministry has not made any decisions regarding the matter.
Shamin said that the matter has been handed to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and that a final decision will be taken by the corporation.
Last October 2018, several people had submitted forms following the opening of the opportunity to acquire houses in Hulhumale’ Phase 2, by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. While several people had taken up the opportunity and gathered at the Ministry to collect forms, various issues had stalled the collection process and many had expressed their grievances. As such, the matter has now been handed over to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
HDC had released a statement on 11 October 2018 regarding the handover by the Ministry. The statement declared that the matter of receiving and handing out forms for the sale of 400 houses in Hulhumale’ southern area has officially been handed over to HDC. The statement by HDC further reiterated that the matter will be addressed, given adequate time and resources by HDC.
The statement had declared that there are currently discussions with the Ministry regarding the matter and that an announcement will be made soon. There have however not been any announcements or statements made by HDC regarding the matter. The corporation has also been unable to be reached for a comment regarding the matter.
