A former national volleyball player has been arrested in V. Keyodhoo on suspicion of wide-scale drug trafficking.
The individual arrested in connection with the case is 31-year-old Ahmed Fazil, of Dheliyaage, V. Keyodhoo. Hailing from a prominent volleyball family, Fazil previously delivered standout performances for local clubs and represented the national team.
Police stated today that he was apprehended during a joint operation conducted by Police Drug Enforcement, Counter Narcotics Intelligence, and the Vaavu Atoll Police.
During the operation conducted last Thursday under a Criminal Court warrant, authorities searched two houses in Keyodhoo where Fazil was suspected of dealing and trafficking illicit narcotics. According to the police, 265.01 grams of suspected drugs were discovered during the search of the two properties.
Following his arrest, Fazil was presented before the court for a remand hearing, where the court ordered him remanded in custody for 10 days. Police are actively continuing their investigation into the case.
