A lawsuit has been filed at the Civil Court request the right to seek damages regarding the generators placed by the State Electric Company (STELCO) at the block intersecting Koimalaa Hingun and Maanifaa Hingun near the Kudakudhinge Bageecha children's park, which had been creating difficulties in the neighborhood.
The generators were place to prevent an electrical blackout as the energy demand in Male'City continues to climb.
A case was filed at the Civil Court by the Public Interest Law Center (PILC) on behalf of the neighborhood.
The suite says that the STELCO generators in question has imposed on the peoples right to a healthy environment and requested an order to relocate the generators and compensate the neighborhood m
The situation was brought to the attention of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) and the Utility Regulatory Authority. And the HRCM decided last month that the people living on the area are not living in ideal conditions.
Utility Regulatory Authority also ordered to stop the use of the generators in question at the end of this month.
With a suit filed , STLECO said that the generator in question are used rarely and would not be used at all from this Friday onwards.
An official from STELCO said that the suit filed by PILC is a resolved issue.
